Depression In Children
Depression can be recognised by varying symptoms in each case. Often a child described as “moody” is actually displaying symptoms of depression.
Children of all ages are affected by the behaviour of the people in their lives, especially the parent figures. If the child experiences regular discord or friction between the parents, often the child will display a despondent mood or they may become angry and uncooperative in expressing their unhappiness.
When a child loses someone close to them as in the case of a divorce, or the death of a close family member, sometimes the adults in the child’s life are so caught up in their own grieving, that the child’s emotional needs and support are overlooked.
